A couple of things.
1. Metalica has an allegedly awesome documentary that I haven't seen.
2. That Thing You Do is sort of fun... lighthearted... exceedingly fictional.
3. A Hard Day's Night isn't exactly gritty or realistic, but it's a brilliant film. The Beatles Anthology provides some great insight into their touring years.
4. The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter is like, the dark side of touring.
And a couple of books:
- Bebe Buell's "I'm With the Band" is classic groupie lit.
- Caroline Sullivan's "Bye Bye Baby," about her teenage obsession with the Bay City Rollers, is the greatest book ever written about being a fan. I like, lived this.
- The Beatles' house photographer Robert Freeman has an especially lovely coffee table book of photos that he took while he was on the road with them, especially in their early years.
